Hebrew School

We would like to encourage our parents to be their child’s partner in the Hebrew learning process, regardless of whether they can read/understand Hebrew themselves or not. Parents can sit with their child while they practice Hebrew, take an adult Hebrew class themselves, and most of all be positive and supportive about the process. Attending services as a family as frequently as possible contributes immensely to the Hebrew learning process.

Our Hebrew program has 5 core goals as set forth by our Education Committee as of April 2014:

Participate in services. Students are required to attend services and be able to follow along with the prayers and develop a connection to the congregation

Connect to the Jewish people. Students will be able to connect to K’lal Yisrael, the Jewish people and our larger Jewish community.

Prepare for Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Students will be prepared and feel confident in their abilities as a Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Be competent in Hebrew. Students will reach a high level of competency with their decoding of text in the Aleph-Bet (Hebrew alphabet), and command a useful vocabulary in modern Hebrew

Be Positive and open to learning. Have a positive association with Hebrew and learning Hebrew

Students enrolled in grades 3-6 are expected to attend services according to the following requirements:

  • 3rd grade:  3 times a year
  • 4th grade:  4 times a year
  • 5th grade:  5 times a year
  • 6th grade:  6 times a year

This requirement may be satisfied by attending services at KI or at ANY synagogue or Jewish institution world-wide for any service- Shabbat, Havdalah, a family member b’nai mitzvah etc.
