Shabbat Out of the Box - Take 2!

  • Occurs 2nd Saturday of each month

Shabbat Out of the Box events are usually the second Saturday of each month.  For a complete printable schedule in pdf form, CLICK HERE.

Outdoor activities are weather for “in person” but all events will be accessed through zoom in case of inclement weather. For this reason and to plan, REGISTRATION is required by the Thursday prior to each event.

Everyone is welcome so please feel free to bring your friends and family. All events are free.

August: Meditation with Ann Friedenheim

Date: August 8th, 2020
Time: 8:30-9:30 am

Contrary to popular belief, Meditation is not the emptying of the mind but training for the mind to be in the present moment, fully awake and alert to our lives. Having full attention, on purpose allows us to live our lives fully and sometimes, more skillfully. Come share this hour and experience this simple but not always easy practice. Instruction will be offered, no experience necessary. Please bring a folding chair or mat. We will be practicing social distancing and safety precautions.

October: Phone Photography

Discover how to best capture the moment with your phone. Learn how to compose a picture with Joan Tilton, a professional photographer from Houston, Texas. She will share some fun apps to increase your picture taking pleasure.

November: Hiking with Social Distance 

Shabbat is a special time to enjoy nature and be grateful for the world around us. Join Melissa and Harvey Hakim for a vigorous hike with a social distancing bend.  We will get our heart rates up and also take some time to notice the beauty that surrounds us. 

December: Hannukah Card Making for our Elders

Create gift bags for the elders in our community.  Using simple supplies.

February: Mandala Creations

Date: Feburary 13, 2021
Time: noon?

Mandala is the Sanskrit word for”magic circle.” Nearly every culture uses mandalas, or circular images, in their cultural and spiritual practice. Join art teacher, Susan Hardy, for meditative mandala making.  No art experience necessary. All you need is paper, pencils/colored pencils, markers or crayons and a creative spirit.

March: Havdalah Service

Date: March 13, 2021
Time: 6:30pm-7:45pm

Havdalah means "separation" and is the ancient ritual that formally ends Shabbat.  Join us as we say goodbye to our time of rest and welcome the new week.  Infused with music, symbols and meaning, this short, participatory service will engage all of your senses and prepare you to carry the gifts of Shabbat into the week to come.  Afterwards, we'll chat and play a rousing game of Scattergories!  A Havdalah candle and spice bag will be provided; stop by KI on Thursday, March 11 from 10 - 4 to pick them up -  you add the wine, grape juice, or another beverage of your choice.  Families are welcome and encouraged to attend.

April: The Art and Science of Qigong

Come join Hilary Smith, RN and long term student of the Chinese martial arts, for an introduction to the art and science of qigong.  Learn how this ancient art can energize your body and relax your mind.  No experience is necessary and the practice is accessible to people of all ages, sizes and levels of physical conditioning.

May: Israeli Dancing with Don Shillinger

Come alone or bring your entire family to dance the morning away!  Last year, one of our most popular Shabbat Out of the Box programs.  You will laugh, learn and enjoy the masterful teaching of Don Shillinger who is not new to the Lehigh Valley.
