Space is limited, but Family Promise could still
use a few more volunteers!
Family Promise Needs You!
Our next hosting week Sunday evening, December 21 @ 6pm thru Sunday morning December 28 @ 6am.
We are looking for volunteers to make/host dinners, sleep overnight, help us set up and break down sleeping rooms, and help transport Family Promise’s gear (bedding, paper goods, plasticware, etc.) from KI to Christ Lutheran Church, 1245 Hamilton Blvd, Allentown prior to the 12/21/25 and back to KI the morning of 12/28/25.
Please fill out the form below if you are interested in participating.
As one of 13 interfaith congregations around the Lehigh Valley, KI partners with Family Promise® of the Lehigh Valley to feed and house at risk homeless families 4 times per year for one week at a time. During the day residents use the organizations Day Care Center for hygiene, laundering and care of pre-school children. At night the families are transported to us where volunteers prepare and serve the evening meal, stay overnight for support as well as arrange for the next day’s breakfast and lunch.
While keeping families together is the main point, this model allows for case management services necessary for an address, employment, transportation and food – the ultimate goal though is to enable these families to transition to sustainable housing and financial security within a short time frame.
Breaking down stereotypes is a major takeaway for many of the participants. Following our first hosting in December 2019, one congregant noted, "As we sat around having dinner with these individuals, we laughed, we cried and we learned so much from one another."
Another said, "Their desperate need for a safe place to sleep and meals to stave off hunger are the result of them being victims of circumstances beyond their control. KI’s participation in this program may be the most powerful Mitzvah we have ever done."
If you would like to be a part of this amazing initiative, please contact Nancy Silver or Rachel Cubellis via the form at the bottom of the page.
